From Our Principal

Hello Samantha Smith Families,                                                                                     August 6, 2021
We are excited for another successful year here at Smith! We are excited to finally welcome everyone back to in person learning!

As a school community, we believe in “Success, Care, and Respect for All Learners.” All students will have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be successful now and in the future. As adult members of the Samantha Smith Learning Community, we accept the charge to do everything in our power to ensure that students will be taught, cared for, and respected each and every day by school staff, parents, and the community.

We look forward to partnering with you during your child’s educational journey. Please consider joining our PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association). Our PTSA helps to guide many school activities and enriches the learning experience for all students. Visit http://smithptsa.org to join.

On a personal note, this will be my 11th year as the Principal of Samantha Smith Elementary. I started at Washington State University (Go Cougs!). I was a teacher before moving into administration. I love working with kids. This is my passion.  In the past 8 years, our school community has watched me also step into motherhood. I have two girls at home, Kennedy who is almost eight and Pierce who is five. I am thankful every day for my small wonders at home. They have taught me so much more about my role as a principal and as a partner in your child’s education. We are so thankful to also have the support of Mrs. Westra, our Associate Principal. Mrs. Westra has been an administrator at all levels of education and is a parent herself. I am thankful every day to get to work alongside Mrs. Westra. We both look forward to welcoming you back to school.
